My battery has failed, what should I do?

Have it checked at the nearest battery service point. Following a technical inspection, the service determines whether the fault originates from manufacturing or from use. Batteries found to have a manufacturing defect within the warranty period are replaced with a new one.

If the fault is found to be caused by use, the battery is not covered by the warranty. Common user-related faults include:

  • Cracked, broken or damaged case
  • Deep discharge
  • Overcharging (caused by a faulty voltage regulator)
  • Sulphation (caused by long periods of storage without use)
How can I extend the life of my battery?

A few simple habits are enough to extend battery life:

  • Have your vehicle's charging system (alternator and voltage regulator) checked regularly.
  • After frequent short trips, run the vehicle for a longer period from time to time so the battery reaches full charge.
  • Do not leave consumers such as headlights, radio or air conditioning on for long periods while the engine is off.
  • Keep the terminals clean and tight; check regularly for corrosion.
  • If the vehicle will be idle for a long time, disconnect the terminals or apply a maintenance charge with a battery charger.
Why does a battery run out?

Batteries reach the end of their life depending on how often and under what conditions they are used. In normal use a battery not only supplies the high current required for cranking (several hundred amps), but also powers every electrical device in the vehicle — air conditioning, lights, indicators, instrument display, radio/CD player and more.

In addition to discharge cycles, batteries also wear during charging while the vehicle is running, which gradually brings them to the end of their service life.

What can I do to improve battery performance?

To improve battery performance, carry out regular maintenance and make sure the battery is charged correctly. Having the vehicle's electrical system checked regularly is also beneficial.

What should I do when corrosion forms on the battery terminals?

When corrosion forms on the battery terminals, clean it with a mixture of baking soda and water or with a dedicated battery cleaner. After cleaning, applying a little grease or petroleum jelly to the terminals helps prevent the corrosion from returning.

Which battery should I fit to my vehicle?

Choosing the right battery depends on three figures: capacity (Ah), cranking power (CCA) and box dimensions. You will find these values in your vehicle's owner manual or on the label of your current battery.

If your vehicle has a Start-Stop system, an AGM or EFB battery must be used; a conventional flooded battery will fail quickly in these systems.
